Fitness and Fun at SEVCA’s Fools’ Run

WESTMINSTER– On Saturday, April 2, Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) will hold its first “Couch-to-5K” event, named the Fools’ Run in celebration of April Fools’ Day. SEVCA’s Wellness Committee conceptualized the event as a way to encourage SEVCA employees and residents of the surrounding community to get active and live healthier. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for SEVCA’s housing assistance program, which helps prevent homelessness among at-risk families and individuals and re-house those who are homeless.

The Fools’ Run is open to the public and will start promptly at 9 a.m. Participants will walk or run at their own pace on a moderately challenging gravel route starting at SEVCA’s offices at 91 Buck Drive and proceeding up nearby Henwood Hill. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children under 16, and $30 for a family of three.

The event’s major sponsors are Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont (BCBSVT) and C&S Wholesale Grocers in Brattleboro.  Other sponsors include Westminster Auto Service, Inc., L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates, Massucco Law Office, P.C., and Green Mountain Power.

Registrations will be accepted up to and including the morning of the event, but advance registration is recommended. The first 50 registrants will receive a free t-shirt. For more information, call Linda Brooks at 802-722-4575, ext. 105 or visit SEVCA’s website, www.sevca.org for a direct link to an online registration form.
